‘Redeem’ is the mindset of a young believer restarting all areas of life under Christ. They have made a decision to believe, and they have discovered what it means to them to be a Christian. Now they are setting out in earnest to restart their life and live in accordance with Christ’s teaching. For the church, this is a continuation of preaching and teaching (Acts 14:21-22), especially in regards to obedience to Christ (Mt 28:20), in order to equip the saints for ministry. From the standpoint of the young believer, this is the process of redeeming every aspect of their life and submitting to the Lordship of Christ in every area.
‘Redeem’ is the next crucial step in the discipleship cycle. In the context of ordered learning where discipleship is cumulative, it is important that any discipleship curriculum ensure that a young believer can learn to be obedient to Christ and thus can redeem all aspects of their life, and in doing so be transformed (head, heart, and hands) in a community context and with accountability.
